Electrode Manipulators
Kopf Electrode Manipulators are the most accurate, versatile and maintenance-free manipulators available. They combine all time saving features a researcher expects in advanced instruments. No other manipulators in the stereotaxic field approach their performance or reliability.
The units have precision screw-driven slides which can only be moved by turning the control knob. Therefore, they are able to support any reasonable equipment desired. Since the slide rods pass through bushings, the units should not be subject to temperatures above 120° F as the bushings will be damaged.
Of primary importance are the many positions, including compound angles, that these universal manipulators will assume. This allows access to all parts of the brain with a minimum of tissue penetration in surrounding areas. Shown on page 43 are a few of the many positions that can be obtained.
- Base Locking Screw
- Screw lock for 360° rotation in 5° increments
- Screw lock for index square. To move this joint, loosen handle and lift vertical slide approximately 4 mm before attempting to turn. Reposition slide and lock at desired position.
- Indexing square for four basic coordinates (set screw should not be adjusted).
- Screw lock for protractor adjustment. Withdraw colored alignment pin from base, loosen screw, move to desired position and tighten screw.
- Colored alignment pin. Inserted for vertical alignment; must be removed prior to angulation of manipulator.
